Does Time-Restricted Eating actually make a difference, or is it overhyped?
Time-restricted eating (TRE) is supported by several well-designed randomized controlled trials, including a large NEJM trial that found calorie restriction with or without TRE, and a JAMA trial on early time-restricted eating, both showing meaningful weight loss but generally similar results whether or not meals were also restricted to a specific window. Weighing the data: Time-Restricted Eating looks well-studied but modest in effect — the evidence is rated strong (84/100), but its estimated impact on longevity is comparatively small (41/100).
